How to Replace the MINI Cooper Key Fob Battery

Ready for a MINI Cooper key fob battery replacement? Learning how to replace the battery in a MINI Cooper key is a relatively simple task, just follow the steps below. You can pick up a MINI Cooper key fob battery at our parts department near Providence, RI, and you can always contact our service team if you have questions about your MINI Cooper key fob battery.

MINI Cooper Key Fob Battery Replacement

If your key fob remote isn’t working like it used to, you’ll find that replacing a MINI Cooper key battery is really quite easy. These steps will show you how:

  1. Press the small silver button on the side of your key fob and remove the integrated metal key from the remote control.
  2. Pry open the fob casing using the end of your metal key.
  3. Now that your battery compartment is accessible, use your metal key to open it up.
  4. Push the battery toward the center of the circle-shaped fob. This should give it a slight lift and allow you to remove it.
  5. Place a new CR 2032 battery in the open compartment. Make sure that the positive side is facing upward.
  6. Return the battery housing and the key fob cover to their proper places.
  7. Press the metal key back into its housing until you hear a click.

As noted previously, you can pick up a new MINI Cooper key battery at our Warwick parts department. You can also find CR 2032 batteries at local Cranston, RI-area hardware stores and supermarkets.

Programming Your MINI Cooper Key Fob

If you have recently replaced your MINI Cooper key battery but it still isn’t working as it should, you may need to get a replacement key fob. However, you might want to try reprogramming the fob first by following these steps:

  1. Insert your metal key into the ignition. Turn the key to accessory mode. Your lights should turn on, but your engine should remain off.
  2. Withdraw the key from the ignition without turning the vehicle off. Press and hold the unlock button on your key fob.
  3. Now press the lock button three times in rapid succession. Release the unlock button as you press lock for the third time.

If your MINI Cooper does not have a traditional ignition, you can skip step one. Just press the on button (without starting the vehicle) while all the windows and doors are closed, then take steps two and three while your vehicle remains in accessory mode.
