How to Jump Start a MINI Cooper

Jump Start a Car

Can’t start your MINI Cooper? In most cases, all you’ll need is a quick MINI Cooper jump start to get you back on the road. While you can always call a jump-start service, it is really very easy to do the job yourself. This guide from the team in the MINI of Warwick Service Center will fill you in on how to jump-start a MINI Cooper. If it turns out that you need a new car battery, visit our parts department near Providence, RI for a replacement.

Steps on How to Jump a MINI Cooper

A MINI Cooper jump start will require another vehicle and a set of jumper cables. The following steps will walk you through how to jump a MINI Cooper:

  1. Have the driver who is helping you park their car facing yours. Make sure both vehicles are turned off with their parking brakes engaged.
  2. Pop the hoods of the cars, and locate their batteries. The MINI Cooper battery location is near the rear of the engine compartment on the driver’s side.
  3. Once you have access to the battery, identify the positive and negative terminals and make sure they are clean and free of any corrosion.
  4. Starting with the dead battery, connect the red clamp to the positive battery post. Then, hook the other red clamp to the positive battery post on the other car.
  5. Connect the black clamp to the negative battery post of the charged vehicle, and connect the final clamp to an unpainted metal surface on the frame of your MINI Cooper.
  6. With everything securely connected, have the other driver start their vehicle. You can then start yours.
  7. When both cars are up and running, carefully remove the jumper cables in the reverse order that you attached them.
  8. Keep the jump-started vehicle running for at least 10 minutes in order to ensure that the battery doesn’t die again right away.

More MINI Cooper Battery Tips

Unfortunately, car batteries don’t last forever. If a MINI Cooper jump start doesn’t work, it could be that you need a new battery. However, it also may indicate a more serious issue with your vehicle. Consider the following:

  1. If you hear a clicking sound when you try to start your MINI Cooper, there might be an issue with the starter. Schedule service at MINI of Warwick for assistance.
  2. If the electrical systems in your MINI Cooper power on but the engine fails to start, there could be a number of issues, including with the ignition switch, battery, starter, or fuse. Bring your vehicle to MINI of Warwick and have our certified technicians diagnose exactly what the problem is.
  3. Make sure that you keep your MINI Cooper running for a while after getting the jump. This allows the battery to recharge fully after it’s been drained.
