We invite you to read more about electric car reliability with our guide. Our team thinks you’ll find that you can rely on electric vehicles to take you everywhere around Cranston, RI.

Are Electric Cars Reliable and Easier to Maintain?

EVs are most certainly reliable, and they are much cheaper to maintain compared to gasoline engines due to fewer moving parts. The Yale Climate Connection performed a study that determined that EVs are 40% less expensive to maintain than internal combustion engines. You won’t have to worry about bringing your EV into our service center from Newport, RI as often as you would with a conventional vehicle.

With electric car reliability, you won’t have to worry about:

  • Oil changes
  • Gasket replacements
  • Belt replacements
  • Spark plugs
  • Cooling system flushes
  • Engine air filters
  • And so much more!

Even better is that EV brakes wear out more slowly than gas-powered vehicles. Why? Regenerative braking technology that works as soon as you take your foot off of the accelerator. As such, your brake pads and rotors last much longer than on gasoline-powered vehicles.

There are some maintenance tasks you need to take care of. Even so, you can rely on electric vehicles to save you money for as long as you own them.

Are Electric Cars Reliable Based on Maintenance Do They Need?

Electric cars are reliable because they require very little maintenance. Read your owner’s manual to look at the maintenance recommendations. Then, follow the service intervals you see to maximize your electric car’s reliability.

Look at what maintenance you’ll need to take care of with a new EV, which is still much less than a gasoline-powered vehicle:

  • The EV battery’s charging capacity will lessen over time due to the nature of electrical batteries. But this generally doesn’t happen before 80,000 to 100,000 miles. Regularly driving on a low battery can cause it to wear out faster.
  • EVs are heavier than gas vehicles because of their huge batteries. They also deliver instant torque for faster acceleration. As such, your tires will wear down a bit faster than with gasoline engines, so it’s especially important to stay on top of wheel alignments and tire rotations every 7,500 to 10,000 miles.
  • You’ll need to replace the vehicle’s coolant. Coolant is used to prevent the battery from getting too warm, which can make your EV less efficient.
  • Update your vehicle’s software when it’s time. It can help make your EV run more efficiently in Newport, RI. Software updates happen automatically through your vehicle’s information screen.
